1. Split Rock Lighthouse & State Park
The Split Rock Lighthouse and State Park is one of the most popular places to visit along the north shore. Finished in 1910, this historic landmark served as a beacon for countless ships maneuvering their way across the tenacious Lake Superior. 2. Two Harbors Lighthouse
Another historical lighthouse that many people love to visit is the Two Harbors Lighthouse. First lit in 1892, it is the oldest lighthouse located in Minnesota. There’s much to be learned and appreciated when visiting this beautiful piece of history!
3. Gooseberry Falls
In addition to Split Rock Lighthouse and Two Harbors Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls is another destination that sees countless visitors every year. This State Park is so iconic due to its unique waterfall formations, as well as fun trails and beautiful forests. Needless to say, it’s easy to spend the day enjoying all Gooseberry has to offer!
4. Tettegouche State Park
Tettegouche State Park is known for its hiking trails filled with gorgeous views, hidden waterfalls, and sea caves. There are miles and miles of trails just waiting to be explored! Some spots to look out for include:

- The cascades
- Palisade Valley Overlook
- Shovel Point Overlook
- Palisade Head
- Two Step Falls
5. Palisade Head & Hellacious Overlook
When traversing through Tettegouche State Park (or taking a drive along the north shore), you can find the stunning Palisade Head and Hellacious Overlook! This area is named as such due to the high, rigid cliffs that you’ll find once you get there. Not only are the cliffs themselves made up of unique rock formations, but you’ll get an amazing view of Lake Superior and her miles and miles of shoreline!
6. Beaver Bay & Agate Shop
If you have a love of unique rocks, then Beaver Bay is a must-see! This bay is filled with unique, colorful agates that Lake Superior is well-known for producing. Whether you have a collection of unique stones, or you’ve never collected a rock in your life, you’re sure to have a fun time looking for these little pieces of treasure throughout the shoreline!

7. Iona’s Beach Scientific & Natural area
Another great beach known for its beautiful rock collection is Iona’s Beach SNA. Because of a nearby rhyolite cliff, the beach is filled with unique, pink-colored rocks. If you listen closely, the rocks will even sing to you as the waves crash over them! In addition to the pink shoreline, you’ll find a beautiful view of the lake, rock structures and cliffs, a variety of old trees (such as Paper Birch, Balsam, Mountain Ash, and Alder) and an array of wildlife.
*Because this is a scientific area, you are not allowed to take any rocks, leaves, branches, or other pieces of the area with you when you leave!
8. Betty’s Pies
Betty’s Pies is a hidden gem of Northern Minnesota. Not only is it a tourist favorite, but it’s popular with the local residents as well! They bake a variety of pies including Raspberry Rhubarb Crunch, Bumbleberry, Blueberry, and more. While they’re best known for their world-famous pies, they also provide a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
9. Castle Danger Brewery
The Castle Danger Brewery, located in Two Harbors, brews a variety of popular, unique, and flavorful beers that many Minnesotans love to indulge in! You can visit their taproom Sunday-Thursday from 12 pm to 9 pm and Friday and Saturday until 10 pm. They bring in live music during the weekends and the Oasis del Norte food truck on Fridays!
