Two Harbors Farmers Market
Every Saturday through October 12th, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, the Two Harbors Farmers Market will be held at Burlington Station. This charming market features local produce, bread, jams, jellies, plants, and baked goods. With its friendly atmosphere and occasional live music, it’s the perfect place to pick up fresh items and support local farmers and artisans.
Harvest Booya
On October 5, the Harvest Booya will be held at the Clair Nelson Center from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. This classic Midwestern event celebrates the harvest with a hearty bowl of booya stew, along with fry bread, lefse, and baked treats. Enjoy live music and browse various crafts and vendors while immersing yourself in the community spirit.
Holy Spirit Fall Bazaar
The Holy Spirit Fall Bazaar will take place on October 12, 2024, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. This annual event features local crafters and artists, a bake sale, and lunch. It’s a great opportunity to find unique handmade items and enjoy a delicious meal while supporting local vendors in Two Harbors.
Oktoberfest at Bluefin Bay
Bluefin Bay on Lake Superior will host its inaugural Oktoberfest on October 12, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This exciting event features traditional German cuisine, a selection of German and fall-themed beers, and fun competitions such as hammerschlagen and pretzel toss. Explore local crafts at the artisan show and let the kids enjoy crafting activities from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
William A. Irvin Haunted Ship Tours
Throughout October 2024, the William A. Irvin Haunted Ship Tours will run on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in Duluth. These spooky tours of the historic Lake Superior steamer offer a thrilling experience. Note that children under 12 are not admitted without a parent.
Stargazing
Two Harbors is an ideal destination for stargazing, especially as the temperatures cool down in the fall. With its clear, crisp nights and minimal light pollution, the North Shore provides a perfect backdrop for observing meteor showers and the stunning night sky.
Draconids Meteor Shower
The Draconids meteor shower will be active from October 6 to 10, with peak viewing on the evening of October 7 into the early morning hours of October 8. This meteor shower will have favorable viewing conditions this year as the moon will be only 27% illuminated and set around 9:00 pm.
October Full Moon
On October 17, 2024, the October full moon, known as the Hunter’s Moon, will illuminate the North Shore. This moon, also referred to as the Falling Leaves Moon or Freezing Moon, provides an excellent opportunity for stargazing and enjoying the crisp fall night sky.
Orionids Meteor Shower
The Orionid meteor shower will peak on October 21 and 22, 2024. This meteor shower, a by-product of Halley’s Comet, will be visible after midnight with a clear sky rate of about 20 meteors per hour. Though the moon will be mostly full, it should still be possible to see some meteors, especially if you catch a break in the clouds.
Outdoor Activities
The North Shore offers a wealth of outdoor activities perfect for the fall season. Gooseberry Falls State Park is a must-visit destination, renowned for its stunning waterfalls and scenic trails.
