Fall Activities on the North Shore MN

Stargazing

Two Harbors is an ideal destination for stargazing, especially as the temperatures cool down in the fall. With its clear, crisp nights and minimal light pollution, the North Shore provides a perfect backdrop for observing meteor showers and the stunning night sky.

Draconids Meteor Shower

The Draconids meteor shower will be active from October 6 to 10, with peak viewing on the evening of October 7 into the early morning hours of October 8. This meteor shower will have favorable viewing conditions this year as the moon will be only 27% illuminated and set around 9:00 pm.

October Full Moon

On October 17, 2024, the October full moon, known as the Hunter’s Moon, will illuminate the North Shore. This moon, also referred to as the Falling Leaves Moon or Freezing Moon, provides an excellent opportunity for stargazing and enjoying the crisp fall night sky.

Orionids Meteor Shower

The Orionid meteor shower will peak on October 21 and 22, 2024. This meteor shower, a by-product of Halley’s Comet, will be visible after midnight with a clear sky rate of about 20 meteors per hour. Though the moon will be mostly full, it should still be possible to see some meteors, especially if you catch a break in the clouds.
